In the heart of Spain, a state pact against the climate emergency is being proposed, aimed at addressing the increasing frequency of extreme weather events. The initiative, spearheaded by President of the Government Pedro Sánchez, has faced opposition from various political parties, including the People's Party (PP).

The affected communities, all governed by the PP, have criticized the Government for not providing enough help in extinguishing the fires that ravaged almost 340,000 hectares in August. The Government, however, denies these accusations, claiming it has provided means, but laments the lack of prevention in some territories.

Pedro Sánchez has predicted the arrival of new extreme climate episodes and has called for a State pact against the climate emergency. The Government hopes to reach this pact before the end of the year, presenting a roadmap that includes improving working conditions for personnel in the sector through enhanced training, better equipment, and stronger labor protections.

The PSOE and United We Can, along with the PNV and ERC, have rejected the creation of a Civil Protection Agency within the state agreement. The Minister for Ecological Transformation and TRAGSA has supported the need for better conditions for personnel, but not the agency itself.

The PP, led by Feijóo, has stated that it will not support the State pact against the climate emergency. The PP leader did not attend an event due to disagreement with Sánchez's attacks on the judges. The Government, in response, has criticized Feijóo's "stance" towards the king and the Judiciary.

The State pact against the climate emergency transcends legislatures and political contingencies, according to the Government. The Minister of the Presidency, Felix Bolanos, endorsed Sánchez's statements but also showed his support for García Ortiz, the Attorney General.

The dispute reached Civil Protection, with the PP labeling its director, Virginia Barcones, as a "pyromaniac". The Government has already approved an emergency zone for the territories affected by fires since late June and has approved a basic framework for forest brigades, firefighters, and environmental agents.

Meanwhile, the political landscape is not without its internal strife. Sergio Serrano's interview this week has caused discomfort, as autumn continues to be news-filled with cases like the Koldo case, the wife of the President of the Government, Begona Gómez, and the loose ends of the amnesty law, among others. Members of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and associations of judges have shown division this week.

Pedro Sánchez has made five visits to areas affected by fire, three of which were to the community of León, Spain. The Government aims to turn the page on the fire crisis and move forward in the fight against climate change.
