San Miguel de Allende welcomes a new luxury hotel amid closures and delays

San Miguel de Allende has seen recent changes in its hospitality and transport sectors. A new Marriott hotel opened near Luna de Queso, while a well-known Italian restaurant remains closed without explanation. Meanwhile, delays and roadblocks have disrupted travel in the region.

The Marriott Cleviá hotel and residences officially opened in September, following a soft launch in April. The property offers 74 rooms and 42 residences, with 30% currently available for booking. Nightly rates range from US $250 to $1,000, depending on the accommodation type. Guests have access to a restaurant, swimming pool, and meeting spaces.

Nearby, Vivali, an Italian restaurant on Hernández Macías, has been closed for nearly a month. No official reason has been given for the shutdown, leaving regulars uncertain about its future.

Elsewhere, the long-awaited Waldorf Astoria on El Cardo has delayed its opening until 2027. Developers behind the project remain unnamed in public records.

Transportation also faced issues this month. Farmers' roadblocks in Guanajuato caused delays, including a bus from San Miguel to Guanajuato on 27 October. Local authorities, however, ensured public spaces and cemeteries were ready for Día de Muertos celebrations.

The Marriott Cleviá adds luxury lodging to the area, though questions remain about Vivali’s closure. With the Waldorf Astoria’s opening postponed, travelers may rely more on existing hotels. Roadblocks have eased, but transport delays could still affect visitors during the holiday season.
