San Luis Potosí deepens Japan ties with billion-dollar investments on the horizon
San Luis Potosí is set to strengthen its ties with Japan as investment and business relations grow. The state has already attracted more Japanese capital than any other region in Mexico. Now, new projects and a dedicated office in Tokyo aim to bring even more opportunities. Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona recently visited Japan to meet with high-level officials and business leaders. Discussions focused on expanding investments in automotive, electromobility, agribusiness, and technology sectors. The talks coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Mexico-Japan Free Trade Agreement.
San Luis Potosí already hosts over 50 Japanese companies, supported by a representative office in Tokyo. This office helps smooth business operations and encourages further investment. Governor Gallardo expects at least 10 new Japanese investments in the state by 2025.
One major project is Daikan's plan to build a third plant in San Luis Potosí. The company will invest 7 billion pesos (around US $380 million) in the facility. Initially, it will create 3,500 jobs, with the potential for 6,000 positions within two years. The state's efforts to attract Japanese businesses appear to be paying off. With new investments on the horizon and a growing industrial base, San Luis Potosí is positioning itself as a key destination for foreign capital. The coming years will likely see further expansion in employment and economic activity.
