Sabah political negotiations snub Umno; the ruling party finds itself without a warm welcome in negotiations for upcoming seats.
Headline: LDP Stands Firm Against Umno Cooperation in Sabah Election
In the lead-up to the upcoming Sabah election, Datuk Chin Su Phin, President of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), has made it clear that his party will not cooperate with Umno. The LDP seeks to maintain its independence and avoid political entanglement with the party, citing Umno's declining influence and collapsed political credibility in Sabah.
Datuk Chin has labelled Umno's recent manoeuvres as a betrayal, suggesting that the party is unworthy of any cooperation. He accuses Umno of using the seats issue as a smokescreen to play victim and reiterates that the GRS does not want to include Umno in their alliance.
The issue at hand, according to Datuk Chin, is not seat distribution but the unacceptability of Umno by the people of Sabah. He urges the people to unite and use their votes to tell Umno that its era is over. This sentiment is shared by GRS head Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who has welcomed BN's decision not to enter into any collaboration, a decision that was also the unanimous decision of the GRS Supreme Council.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak has expressed disapproval of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) for considering allocating eight seats to Barisan Nasional (BN) in the upcoming election. Salleh, who is also Treasurer of BN Sabah, stated that the seats won in the last PRN should remain with the original party.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has facilitated talks between GRS and BN leaders in an attempt to avoid multiple contests. However, BN entered into discussions with Pakatan Harapan first, with Salleh claiming that BN was dedicated to discussions with GRS and rejected proposals that were "detrimental and unfair."
Umno's alliance with Parti Warisan to plot the downfall of the GRS government is seen as a betrayal by Datuk Chin. If Umno is given another chance, it would mean handing over Sabah's future to those who once betrayed Sabah's interests, according to Datuk Chin.
In a move to avoid internal conflicts, BN and Pakatan Harapan have decided not to contest against each other in the election, but both would take on each other in other constituencies. Salleh has stated that BN and Pakatan Harapan have almost finalized their seat arrangements.
As the election approaches, the people of Sabah are urged to exercise their right to vote and make their voices heard. The future of Sabah politics hangs in the balance, and the decisions made in the coming weeks will shape the state's trajectory for years to come.
