Russia's Hello, Neighbor! Festival Unites Young Performers in Cultural Celebration

A new cultural festival, Hello, Neighbor!, will take place in the Republic of Komi to celebrate Russia's ethnic diversity. The event invites young performers aged 7 to 35 to showcase traditions, folklore, and customs from across the country. Organisers aim to foster interethnic harmony while supporting youth creativity.

The festival will run in two stages. First, a remote qualifying round must be completed by February 8, 2026. Successful participants will then advance to the in-person finals on February 13, 2026, at the House of Friendship of the Peoples of the Republic of Komi.

All performances must centre on the theme Peoples of Russia. Competitors can present folk dances, songs, dramatic recitations, or original works tied to the traditions of any ethnic group in the Russian Federation. Four categories will be judged: folk dance, folk song, dramatic recitations, and an open 'original genre' section.

The event is organised jointly by the Ministry of National Policy of the Republic of Komi, the House of Friendship of the Peoples of the Republic of Komi, and the regional branch of the Assembly of the Peoples of Russia. Grigory Khatanzeysky, Director of the House of Friendship, described the festival as a chance for young people to share their ethnic heritage and build connections.

The Hello, Neighbor! festival seeks to create a space for cultural exchange among Russia's ethnic communities. By highlighting traditions through performance, the event encourages dialogue and friendship. Organisers expect the initiative to strengthen ties between young people from different backgrounds.
