Russia's Far East shows uneven industrial growth in 2025 data
Russia's Far Eastern Federal District has seen mixed industrial growth in 2025, according to new data. The Far East State Planning Institute (Vostokgosplan) released preliminary findings showing strong gains in some regions but declines in others. Overall, the extractive sector across the district rose by 2.2%.
Khabarovsk Krai led the region with an 18.5% increase in industrial production from January to September. The area also dominated the extractive sector, recording a 46.3% rise—the highest in the district.
Buryatia followed with a 7.9% growth in industrial output and a 29.4% jump in its extractive sector. Primorsky Krai also performed well, with a 13.9% expansion in extraction. Meanwhile, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug saw a 7.5% rise in industrial production. However, not all regions fared as well. Sakhalin Oblast experienced a 5.5% drop in industrial output, while Magadan Oblast recorded a 1.3% decline. The figures do not compare the Far East's performance to nationwide averages. Instead, they highlight regional differences amid broader economic challenges linked to EU sanctions and oil market shifts.
The latest data reveals sharp contrasts in the Far East's industrial performance. While Khabarovsk Krai and Buryatia showed significant growth, Sakhalin and Magadan faced declines. The overall extractive sector in the district grew by 2.2%, reflecting uneven progress across the region.
