Russian police dismantle underground gambling ring after two-year operation
Russian authorities have shut down an illegal gambling ring operating in the Vladimir Region. The operation ran for over two years before a raid led to arrests and the seizure of gaming equipment. Five people now face charges for their involvement in the scheme.
The operation began in December 2021 inside a basement in Strunino, where gaming machines were installed. When the lease on the basement expired, the organisers relocated to a dacha in Alexandrovsky District. The new location operated in a closed, invitation-only format to avoid detection.
A local woman was initially hired to manage the gambling den. Later, the ringleader's mother and another resident took over the role. Investigators confirmed that the ringleader had a prior conviction for a similar offence in 2015 and had been involved in underground gambling before. During the raid, officers seized more than twenty pieces of gambling equipment. Authorities have not released details on whether other illegal operations have been uncovered in the region since 2021.
Five individuals now face prosecution for organising unlawful gambling. The case follows a pattern of illegal activity linked to the ringleader's previous offences. The seized equipment and arrests mark the end of this operation, though further investigations may continue.
