Russian forces face attacks on their bases in Crimea, instigated by Ukrainian forces.
Ukraine's military intelligence service, HUR, has reportedly claimed responsibility for a series of attacks against Russian units on the occupied Crimean peninsula. According to HUR sources, as reported by the news agency Ukrinform, their special unit "Ghosts" was active in these attacks.
The operation, which cannot be independently verified, is said to have involved the use of combat drones. The target was reportedly a radar station on the Crimean peninsula, and the radar guidance system and other components of a Russian S-400 air defense system were destroyed.
Combat drones were also reportedly used in an attack on a base near Simferopol, where at least three helicopters were hit and destroyed. Furthermore, at least six air-cushioned landing ships were reportedly destroyed in the attack at Voloschino, a coastal area.
The impact of a rocket strike on a barracks in Voloschino is currently unknown. A short video clip, which cannot be independently verified, shows a drone approaching a radar dome, suggesting that the attack on the radar station was carried out using drones as well.
However, no reports have been made from the Russian side regarding these incidents. The Russian military has yet to confirm or deny the allegations.
This is not the first time Ukraine has been accused of attacking Russian positions in Crimea. In the past, Ukraine has denied such claims, stating that it does not have the capability to carry out such operations.
The Crimean peninsula was annexed by Russia in 2014, a move that was widely condemned by the international community. The region remains a source of tension between Ukraine and Russia, with both countries regularly accusing each other of provocations and violations of international law.
