Russian film awards unveil 55 shortlisted works celebrating heroism and values
A Russian film initiative has announced the shortlist for its third annual awards. The 'Heroes of a Great Country' competition received 532 submissions this year. Organisers aim to highlight films that promote traditional values and address global issues through storytelling.
The awards began as a film festival in the Urals, backed by the presidential envoy and leading Russian businesses. Since then, the event has grown into a national celebration of cinema that focuses on heroism and societal impact. The non-profit 'Strana' Cultural and Cinematographic Development Foundation now oversees the initiative.
This year's entries include fiction, documentary, and animated films. Each work centres on heroic figures and their influence on communities. After expert review, 55 projects advanced to the final selection. The competition emphasises films that educate young audiences and tackle contemporary challenges. Organisers describe the event as a platform for stories that inspire and reinforce cultural values.
The shortlisted 55 films will now proceed to the final judging stage. Winners will be chosen from a pool of works that blend artistic storytelling with themes of heroism and social relevance. The results are expected to reflect the initiative's focus on cinema as a tool for education and cultural reflection.
