Russian Cup's 7th cross-country skiing stage kicks off in Komi Republic
The 7th stage of the Russian Cup in cross-country skiing is set to take place from January 23 to 25. The event will be held at the Raisa Smetanina Republican Ski Complex in Vylgort, Komi Republic. Organisers have promised a mix of elite competition, free entry, and entertainment for all attendees.
The competition will feature Russia's leading cross-country skiers across four key races. On January 23, athletes will contest the classic sprint. The following day, January 24, includes 10 km and 15 km classic races. The event concludes on January 25 with a team sprint.
Free shuttle buses will transport spectators between central Syktyvkar and the ski complex on each race day. Entry to the venue remains free, and visitors can explore a cultural programme, field kitchens, and a fair alongside the sporting action.
In the lead-up, Rostislav Goldstein, head of the Komi Republic, launched a social media flash mob to rally support for local skiers. Participants are encouraged to share messages of encouragement using the hashtag #KomiSkiPride. The races will also be broadcast live on Match TV.
No skiers from the Komi Republic are widely recognised as having qualified specifically for this stage of the Russian Cup or as prominent figures in similar national competitions.
The event offers both high-level racing and public festivities. With free admission, transport, and live coverage, organisers aim to draw crowds to the Raisa Smetanina complex. The competition will showcase the country's best while giving local skiers a platform to compete.
