Rumors surrounding Snapdragon X2 CPU: What we've learned thus far

The tech world is abuzz with rumours about Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon X2 Elite processor. If the rumours are true, this processor could be a game-changer, offering significant improvements over its predecessor, the Snapdragon X Elite.

According to the latest whispers, the Snapdragon X2 Elite is expected to boast a base clock of 3.4 GHz and 18 CPU cores, marking a 50% increase from the 12 cores found in the Snapdragon X Elite. This could lead to a 30% increase in single-thread performance and an even bigger leap in multi-thread performance.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Series CPUs have already proven their worth, delivering an exceptional balance of performance and power efficiency. If the Snapdragon X2 Elite lives up to expectations, it may outclass the current roster of CPUs, including the Intel Core Ultra 2 series, AMD Ryzen AI 300, and M4 chips in MacBooks.

The Snapdragon X2 CPUs may not be limited to laptops. Given the range of Snapdragon chips in various devices such as smartphones, tablets, VR devices, and XR glasses, it's possible that they could find their way into desktops as well. This is further suggested by testing with 120mm AIO cooling solutions, usually found in desktop towers, indicating a potential desktop launch.

Qualcomm has been tight-lipped about the Snapdragon X2 CPUs, but the Snapdragon Summit 2025 is expected to reveal all. The event, announced earlier this year, is scheduled for September 23, 2025, in Hawaii, where CEO Cristiano Amon is expected to announce the latest CPUs during the keynote.

The Dell XPS 13 with a Snapdragon X Elite processor is already one of the best laptops on the market, boasting nearly 20 hours of battery life and performance nearly on a par with the MacBook Air M3. If the Snapdragon X2 Elite can maintain this level of performance while offering the rumoured improvements, it could shake up the laptop market.

Rumours suggest that Qualcomm could potentially conquer the current CPU market in laptops by unlocking better gaming performance and having AI make a real impact. However, it remains to be seen whether the Snapdragon X2 Elite will live up to the hype when it's officially unveiled at the Snapdragon Summit 2025, expected to take place at the end of September.

Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the Snapdragon Summit 2025!
