Rumors circulating about the Knicks: Reports of a contract offer to Ben Simmons being denied by New York insiders.
The New York Knicks are on the brink of the new NBA season, with just one spot left on their 15-man roster. However, it seems that one of the most intriguing potential additions, Ben Simmons, is unlikely to join the team.
Multiple league sources have confirmed that the Knicks never made a formal offer to Simmons. This comes amidst reports suggesting that the talented point guard is considering his NBA future.
Simmons' agent, Bernie Lee, dropped him earlier this month, further adding to the uncertainty surrounding his NBA career. Last season, Simmons averaged 5.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists across 51 appearances for the Nets and the Clippers.
Despite the Knicks offering a one-year contract, sources close to Simmons suggest that he is very unlikely to join the team. According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, the Knicks extended a one-year deal to Simmons, but it was rejected. Previously, reports suggested that Simmons was looking for a contract above the minimum.
The Knicks, who are still in the market for a bench scorer despite their offseason improvements, have considered names like Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet for that final roster spot. The team has also bolstered their depth with the additions of Guerschon Yabusele and Jordan Clarkson.
However, it appears that Simmons may have to settle for a non-guaranteed contract, according to Brian Windhorst. After being bought out by the Clippers, Simmons was paid just north of a million for the deal.
As the NBA season approaches, Simmons looks likely to enter training camp without signing with an NBA team. The Knicks' search for their final roster piece continues, but it seems that Simmons will not be a part of that puzzle this season.
