Rüdesheim welcomes a new city leader
In a closely contested election, independent politician Dirk Stucket has been elected as the new mayor of Rüdesheim am Rhein. Stucket received 56.5% of the votes cast, securing a decisive victory in the first round of voting.
Stucket's win marks a departure from the CDU, who have traditionally held the mayoral seat. His closest competitor was Michael Barth, an independent candidate, who received 26.5% of the votes. Simon Weimann of the CDU trailed behind with 17.1%.
The voter turnout for the election was 49.7%, with a total of three candidates participating in the race. The incumbent mayor, Klaus Zapp, did not run for re-election due to age reasons, having served one term in office.
Stucket's predecessor, Volker Schmitt, held the office for 16 years before stepping down. The election marked the first time an independent candidate has been elected as mayor of Rüdesheim am Rhein.
Klaus Zapp's decision not to run for re-election paved the way for a fresh face to take over the mayoral seat. Stucket's victory is a testament to the support he has garnered from the residents of Rüdesheim am Rhein.
The election was a multi-candidate race, with Stucket, Barth, and Weimann vying for the top spot. The absence of a runoff between Stucket and another candidate indicates the strong mandate he has received from the voters.
Stucket's win is a significant moment for the town of Rüdesheim am Rhein, and he will be sworn in as the new mayor in the coming weeks. The town looks forward to the leadership and direction that Stucket will bring to the community.
