Roof failure at supermarket results in three reported casualties

In a shocking incident on Saturday evening, part of the roof at a supermarket in Lauchringen, southern Baden-Württemberg, collapsed during business hours. The incident occurred around 5:40 PM, and rescue services were quickly called to the scene.

Initially, the police reported four injured individuals, but later retracted this statement. As of now, it's confirmed that three people were injured in the collapse, including three women aged 20, 52, and 57. One of the women sustained severe injuries and remains hospitalised.

The specific cause of the roof collapse is still unknown and under investigation by the responsible authorities. The building has been secured, and parts of the market are flooded due to the incident. The gas, water, and electricity supplies have been shut off as a precaution.

At the time of the incident, 26 people - customers and staff - were in the market. The Rewe Group, which operates the supermarket, has expressed sympathies to the injured and all those present during the incident. The company fully supports the responsible authorities and emergency services in their investigation of the incident and assures that the safety of customers and employees is their top priority.

The partial collapse of the roof caused significant damage to the building, making it at risk of further collapse. The building in Lauchringen, near the city of Waldshut-Tiengen on the Swiss border, has been secured. Further information will be provided as reliable findings become available.

The Rewe Group has not yet been able to quantify the damage caused by the incident. The investigation into the cause of the roof collapse is currently subject to further examination, although the specific authority or institution overseeing the investigation is not explicitly named in the available reports.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and the Rewe Group has assured customers and employees that they will do everything in their power to ensure such an incident does not happen again in the future.
