Ronnie Ortiz-Magro's troubling interview video sparks fan concern over his health
Too much Ron Ron Juice? Jersey Shore fans are concerned for Ronnie Ortiz-Magro after he appeared to be nodding off during a recent interview with SiriusXM.
In a video that's circulating on TikTok, Deena Cortese talks about the final season of Jersey Shore Family Vacation, and where the cast plans to house their next spinoff. But, in the background, Ortiz-Magro seems to be disassociating, or, according to some, even nodding off. The clip was originally posted by SiriusXM on TikTok, but the outlet seems to have since removed it from its feed.
" My heart hurts for him," one user commented under TikTok user @ashleyhawat 's repost of the incident, while another added, " This is not looking good!! Praying for Ron!" Someone else speculated, " He's wasted." Others, however, brushed off the incident, hoping that Ortiz-Magro was simply exhausted from a long day of press.
DECIDER has reached out to Ortiz-Magro's reps for comment, but did not hear back by the time of publication.
It should be noted that Ortiz-Magro, along with the rest of his Jersey Shore Family Vacation roommates (with the exception of Jenni "JWOWW" Farley and Pauly D), stopped by DECIDER's studio mere hours before the group's interview with SiriusXM, and he opened up about his mental health journey.
" I definitely feel like I've grown a lot from what I was," he said. " It took a lot of downfalls in my life, for me to lose a lot, for me to basically hit rock bottom, to bounce back and just basically say, ' I don't want to go down that road anymore and be that person. I have [my daughter] Ariana, who I have to be a role model to.'"
" I use that as fuel to basically make the right decisions," he continued. " Things in life come at you, but it's also how you handle things. That's basically my mentality. Things are always going to be coming at me. I deal with my own mental health issues on a daily basis, but it's how you handle things. And that's basically what I've learned."
Ortiz-Magro is one of the original cast members from Jersey Shore, having appeared in all six seasons of the original show, as well as most of the Jersey Shore Family Vacation spinoff. His time on the OG show is largely remembered for his volatile on-again, off-again relationship with Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola. While they called it quits for good in 2016, the drama in Ortiz-Magro's life only got worse heading into Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, which premiered in 2018.
At the time, his then-girlfriend Jenn Harley was pregnant with their daughter, Ariana, who was born in April 2018. Ortiz-Magro's relationship with Harley often made headline news. In 2018, Harley was arrested for allegedly dragging Ortiz-Magro with her car, and in 2019, Ortiz-Magro was arrested on felony domestic violence charges following a dispute with Harley. That same year, Ortiz-Magro entered rehab for alcohol and depression.
In 2021, while on probation for the previous incident, Ortiz-Magro was arrested again on suspicion of intimate partner violence involving a different girlfriend, Saffire Matos, though he was ultimately cleared of any additional charges, per People. Shortly after, he announced that he would be taking a step back from Jersey Shore Family Vacation to seek medical treatment for his mental health. When he returned to the show in 2022, he shared that he had been sober for one year.
Earlier this month, police were called to Ortiz-Magro's home in Miami at the request of his ex-girlfriend, Kirsten, who wanted cops present to ensure a peaceful transition as she moved out of their shared house, per a police report obtained by TMZ. Kirsten reportedly told the responding officers that she was leaving Ortiz-Magro " due to infidelity issues."
