Romanian meat manufacturers join forces to take on the ready-to-cook market through a joint venture

In an exciting development for the Romanian agri-food sector, two leading companies – Poultry Investment SA and Authentic Meat SRL – have joined forces to oversee operations with over 1,200 employees. This strategic alliance promises to bring significant changes to the industry, particularly in the production and distribution of poultry products and ready-to-cook meals.

Poultry Investment SA, established in 2023 as a joint venture between the Oprea family and Hodler Capital, manages a fully integrated production chain. This includes breeding farms, hatcheries, broiler facilities, two slaughterhouses, and its own retail network, spanning across four counties in Transylvania: Satu Mare, Mureș, Sibiu, and Braṣov.

On the other hand, Authentic Meat SRL, a Romanian company specializing in meat processing and preparation, headquartered in Gheorgheni, Harghita county, has recently launched a new brand, Puiul de Crăiești, and a new product line, Bistro, for ready-to-cook products. The Bistro line currently offers breaded schnitzels and crispy chicken, and Meat Partners SRL's production facility in Boldești-Scăieni, Prahova county, has a daily capacity of over 20 tonnes of fresh ready-to-cook products.

The combined revenues of these two companies exceed EUR 100 million, reflecting their significant impact on the industry. Initially, distribution of the new products will happen through Meat Partners SRL's own network of nearly 70 stores. However, the companies aim to expand distribution into major hypermarket chains that support Romanian-made products.

Meat Partners SRL expects the new product line to account for approximately 25% of its combined revenues over the next three years. Medium- and long-term plans for the company include diversifying the ready-to-cook portfolio, expanding the national retail network, and exploring export markets.
