Robotaxi service by WeRide operates continuously in Guangzhou, free of human drivers.
WeRide's Robotaxi GXR Revolutionizes Autonomous Transportation
In a significant stride for the autonomous vehicle industry, WeRide, in partnership with Bosch, unveiled the Robotaxi GXR, an advanced driver assistance system, last year. The Robotaxi GXR, powered by Nvidia's latest dual Drive AGX Thor processors, operates on the HPC 3.0 high-performance computing platform and offers point-to-point trips in a major city's central urban area.
The Robotaxi GXR is designed specifically for mass production and boasts ample cabin space, legroom, and a dedicated luggage area for up to five passengers. Its redundancy system is designed to eliminate single-point failures, ensuring a safe and reliable ride.
WeRide's Sensor Suite 5.6, integrated into the Robotaxi GXR, accurately detects other vehicles, pedestrians, and construction areas. Moreover, it maintains visibility in adverse conditions such as fog, dim light, and rain, making it a versatile solution for urban transportation.
The Robotaxi GXR's introduction marks a significant milestone for WeRide. The company launched the first monetisation of public robotaxi services in China in November 2019 and has since expanded its operations to nearly 30 cities worldwide across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. In China, WeRide has initiated the world's first 24-hour fully driverless ride-hailing service with the Robotaxi GXR in Guangzhou, China.
By May 2021, the network had expanded to include key locations and transportation hubs across Guangzhou. Passengers can easily access the service through the WeRide Go app.
WeRide's achievements in the autonomous driving sector have not gone unnoticed. The company was recently nominated for the Just Auto Excellence Awards, which celebrate innovation, leadership, and impact in the automotive industry. This nomination showcases WeRide's commitment to driving advancements in the industry and its position among top leaders in the field.
The Robotaxi GXR's service is the first of its kind in a major city's central urban area, marking a new era for autonomous transportation. As WeRide continues to focus on enhancing its autonomous driving technology and expanding its fully driverless taxi services, it is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of urban mobility.
