Roblox Introducing Short Videos, Artificial Intelligence Features, and Enhanced Age Verification Measures

The age-verification process will be facilitated by a new feature called "video selfie." This innovative tool allows users to use the front camera of their smartphone to film their face from several angles. The data generated from this process will be evaluated by an external service provider named Persona.
The primary purpose of this age-verification process is to confirm that users are at least 13 years old, as per the platform's terms of service. However, users can also provide an official ID document if the "video selfie" incorrectly identifies them as under 13.
This age-verification process is necessary for specific chat features like voice chat with players in the same multiplayer room. It also ensures that mature games on the platform's Moments feature can only be viewed by users who meet the age requirements.
Roblox's Senior Vice President of Engineering, Anupam Singh, is responsible for introducing these AI tools. They will enable creators to generate advanced 3D objects, such as futuristic monster trucks, tailored for the games they build on the platform.
In addition to the age-verification process and AI tools for creators, Roblox is also introducing a short-form video feed. This feature will allow users to share and view gameplay moments with age restrictions, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
Users can flag content they find inappropriate on Moments, contributing to a community that upholds Roblox's standards of conduct. The accuracy of the "video selfie" feature is still uncertain, but Roblox is committed to continually improving its technology to provide the best possible user experience.
