Road Closure on Bình Triệu 2 Bridge in HCM City Causes Traffic Congestion During Bridge's Temporary Shutdown for Renovations

In the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, a series of events has led to significant traffic congestion on Bình Triệu 2 Bridge. The root cause of this issue is the closure of its counterpart, Bình Triệu 1 Bridge, for upgrades that will increase its height.

From August 27, Bình Triệu 1 Bridge has been closed until November 30. This closure is part of an endeavour to raise the bridge's height by 1.08 meters, allowing more ships to pass underneath on the Sài Gòn River.

As a result, Bình Triệu 2 Bridge, which was previously one-way, has been converted to accommodate traffic in both directions. Unfortunately, this change has led to a clash of traffic flows from Bình Triệu 2 Bridge with those from Bình Lợi Bridge, exacerbating the congestion at the Bình Triệu crossroads.

The congestion at Bình Triệu 2 Bridge, located on National Highway 13 in HCM City's Bình Thạnh Ward, has been particularly severe during rush hour. This has affected commuters traveling between the city downtown and the areas of former Bình Dương Province and Thủ Đức City.

To alleviate the traffic congestion, the city Department of Construction has recommended alternative routes via Xô Viết Nghệ Tĩnh street, National Highway 13, Bình Triệu 2 Bridge, and Phạm Văn Đông Street.

Despite these efforts, the congestion at Bình Triệu 2 Bridge is expected to continue until Bình Triệu 1 Bridge reopens on November 30. Until then, commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and consider the alternative routes suggested by the city Department of Construction.
