Rising Hyundai Electric Vehicle Sales by Americans, but Potential Troubles on the Horizon

Hyundai Motor North America has announced record-breaking sales for August 2025, with several models contributing significantly to this achievement. The CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, Randy Parker, stated that the company is on track for its best year ever, with record-breaking results from models like the Elantra Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV), Palisade, and Ioniq 5.

The Palisade, with its boxy new design and classier cabin, has been a standout performer. Sales of the Palisade hybrid, in particular, have soared, with a new hybrid variant now available, starting at $43,660. This eco-friendly powertrain, featuring a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, a 1.65 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, a six-speed automatic transmission, and two electric motors, delivers a combined output of 329 horsepower (245 kW / 334 PS) and boasts a fuel economy rating of up to 34 miles per gallon (mpg).

The Palisade's mainstream variant, powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine, produces 287 horsepower (214 kW / 291 PS) and 260 pound-feet (352 Newton-metres) of torque. The starting price for the Palisade remains at $38,935.

Other Hyundai models that have seen a surge in sales include the Elantra N, Elantra Hybrid, Santa Fe Hybrid, and Santa Fe family. Sales of the Ioniq models, however, may decrease following the elimination of the tax credit.

In August 2025, Hyundai Motor America set an all-time August sales record of 88,523 units. The Ioniq 5 saw a 61% increase in sales, totaling 7,773 units, while the Ioniq 6 sales increased by 30% to 1,047 units. The Ioniq 9 found 1,016 takers.

Notably, General Motors also reported record EV sales for August. This surge in electric vehicle (EV) sales is a trend that Hyundai is embracing, with EV sales increasing 72% year-over-year.

With these impressive sales figures, it's clear that Hyundai is making significant strides in the automotive industry, offering a diverse range of vehicles that cater to various consumer needs and preferences.
