Rise in Unemployment Recorded in Offenbach during August

In the city and district of Offenbach, unemployment numbers saw a slight increase in August 2024, according to Carmen Giss, chairwoman of the management of the Offenbach employment agency.

The total number of unemployed individuals in the district rose to 11,615, an increase of 234 compared to July and 923 more than in the same month last year. The unemployment rate also increased to 5.8% from 5.6% in the previous month.

Within this group, long-term unemployment (1 year or longer) saw a slight increase as well, with 6,826 people affected, 21 more than in July and 522 more than in August 2024. Long-term unemployed individuals accounted for 35.3 percent of all registered unemployed people in August.

In the city of Offenbach, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 9.5%, but the number of unemployed people increased by 12 compared to July and 377 more than in the same month last year, totaling 7,715. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in the Offenbach agency district remained stable at 6.8%, but was above the level of the same month last year (6.4%).

Despite these figures, employment has shown a slight growth in the Offenbach region, as noted by Carmen Giss. However, she also highlighted that companies' willingness to hire remains cautious due to a lack of economic tailwind.

The employment agency is focusing on training and qualification to help address the issue of unemployment. Young people who have not yet found a training place can still start an apprenticeship after the official training start, increasing their chances of success with some flexibility.
