The previous leader of the Austrian Identitarian group, Martin Sellner, ventured into Potsdam on Monday and even stopped by the city hall. A rep from Potsdam's city hall affirmed this on Tuesday. Sellner had shared his experiences through diverse social media outlets. "I managed to get into Potsdam uninhibited and gave Mayor Maik Schubert a gift basket," Sellner elaborated in his post. The city chose not to verify a gift had been presented. Also ambiguous at first was whether he entered the city hall. Potsdam's chief executive is Mike Schubert of the SPD.
This excursion into Potsdam may be viewed as a jab in the ongoing dispute over a nationwide ban barring Sellner's admission to Germany. Potsdam's immigration bureau had issued a nationwide ban in March. Sellner, in retaliation, launched legal proceedings against them, thus, the ban is presently non-enforceable. This action from the city hinges around a lecture Sellner delivered at a gathering of far-right sympathizers in a Potsdam estate in November. Sellner maintained he discussed mass deportations, calling it "remigration." This involves foreign-rooted people leaving the nation, including those with German citizenship.
Potsdam has followed the administrative court mandate to not impede Sellner's entry for the meantime, a spokesperson for the city remarked Tuesday afternoon. Their statement concluded, "We won't comment further on individual dealings." Initially, the "Tagesspiegel" relayed the news of Sellner's visit.
