Riga Airport, the primary gateway to Latvia, served a record-breaking 7.1 million passengers in 2024, marking a 7% increase from the previous year. This growth was accompanied by a 3% rise in the number of flights, totaling 63,000 for the year.

The airport's Chair, Laila Odiņa, announced that they are working tirelessly to accommodate more passengers, reduce environmental impact, and strengthen Latvia's role in the Nordic countries' aviation map. To achieve this, more than EUR 16.2 million was invested in various projects in 2024.

One of the significant investments was the reconstruction of the technical services building, which cost over EUR 2 million. Another notable expense was the purchase of new electric buses for passenger transport, which set the airport back EUR 3 million. The reconstruction of the power supply infrastructure was another project implemented during the year.

The airport's efforts were rewarded with impressive financial results. Its net turnover reached EUR 77.63 million, a 7% increase from the previous year. Moreover, the airport's non-aviation revenue amounted to €32.76 million, representing an over 12% increase. The revenue from aviation services was €44.87 million.

The increase in passenger numbers, flights, and net turnover at Riga Airport was reported by the airport itself. The airport also announced that binding offers from international financial institutions have been received for the expansion of the passenger terminal. An international construction tender for this expansion is planned to conclude in the second half of 2025.

However, the name of the person who announced that the terminal expansion would begin in the second half of 2025 is not mentioned in the available search results. Nonetheless, it is clear that Riga Airport is committed to growth and modernisation, positioning itself as a key player in the Nordic aviation sector.
