Rhönklub Hünfeld's Guided Walking Tour on August 31, 1925, from Arzell to Buchenau Castle
Join Bernd Diegelmann and Jörg Sorian for a captivating hiking adventure through the Rhön on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
The journey begins in the town center of Arzell, with the meeting point at the Arzell parking lot Eitrastraße/An der Schlierbach at 9:30 AM. The hike will then follow the Eitra towards Buchenau, offering a stunning view of castle Seckendorff and castle Buchenau from the Muhlberg.
The total distance of the hike is 17 kilometers, making it a medium level of difficulty. Guests are welcome to join the hike, and the group will refuel and head back towards Buchenau after a lunch break in Mengers, under large trees in the village square.
The hike will pass by a Jewish cemetery on the outskirts of Erdmannrode, first used in 1896, and one of the windmills. Hikers will cross the connecting road between Erdmannrode and Mengers and continue along the Bernhardsmühle.
The hike will not be in the forest during the stretch on the paved economic path. Hikers will turn right above the water reservoir and leave the forest section between Reckrod and Branders, with a brief meadow path before reaching Mengers. The hike will end in the town of Mengers.
While the hike will visit castle Buchenau, further details about this part of the journey are not provided in the information. The final gathering will take place at the "Schön" inn in Leibolz.
