Retail chain Lidl takes up residency in AEZ Poppenbüttel; set to launch this year

In an exciting development for shoppers in Poppenbüttel, Hamburg, a new Lidl branch is set to open at the Alstertal Shopping Center. This will be the first discounter of this type for the shopping center, marking a new retail scenario.

The new Lidl branch will occupy an area of around 1,100 square meters, while the existing Galeria branch will undergo extensive renovations, covering approximately 13,000 square meters. The company Lidl has developed a tailored branch solution for the spatial conditions of Galeria, with special materials such as wooden elements being used for functional and design purposes.

The relocation of the children's department to the second floor has led to a reduction in size of the sports department in Galeria. As a result, only selected sports articles such as swimwear or outdoor jackets will be offered in the existing fashion areas. With the subletting of partial areas to Lidl, Galeria aims to react to the ongoing pressure in stationary retail.

Last year, Lidl opened its first branches in existing department stores, together with Galeria, in Berlin. This expansion strategy continues with the new branch in the AEZ, which will have its own entrances and separate opening hours. The new Lidl market is expected to open later this year, with operations expected to be operational before Christmas.

This is the first time a Lidl branch is being created within Galeria at the Alstertal Shopping Center. The areas in the basement of the Galeria branch are being extensively renovated to accommodate the new Lidl areas on the upper floor. Lidl's strategic move into the premises of the Galeria branch is part of a larger expansion strategy.
