Resorts World Las Vegas shakes up leadership amid revived high-stakes lawsuit
Resorts World Las Vegas is making major changes to its leadership team while facing ongoing legal challenges. The casino operator has appointed several new executives, including a former Nevada governor as its board chairman. Meanwhile, a federal appeals court has revived a high-stakes lawsuit that could drag into next year. In September, Resorts World named Lou Dorn as chief legal officer and corporate secretary, with Elizabeth Tranchina taking on the role of general counsel. The reshuffle continued as Carlos Castro was promoted to property president, and Alex Dixon moved into a senior advisory position for the board. Former Nevada governor Brian Sandoval, who joined the board earlier this year, will now serve as its chairman.
The leadership changes come as the casino grapples with legal and regulatory pressures. In March, Resorts World agreed to a $10.5 million penalty and stricter anti-money laundering measures. Now, a federal appeals court has reopened a lawsuit filed by high-roller RJ Cipriani, who claims the casino enabled illegal gambling and overlooked criminal activity. The Nevada Gaming Control Board has refused to support the casino's position in the case, and discovery proceedings are still underway.
The lawsuit, revived in November 2025, is expected to stretch into 2026. Cipriani's allegations include claims that Resorts World ignored warnings about suspicious betting patterns. The casino has not yet responded publicly to the latest court decision.
Elsewhere, former MGM Resorts CEO Jim Murren is stepping back from day-to-day operations. He will transition to the honorary role of chairman emeritus while taking on an interim CEO position with the United Arab Emirates' General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority. The leadership overhaul at Resorts World Las Vegas reflects both strategic shifts and mounting legal challenges. With a revived lawsuit and stricter compliance demands, the casino faces a prolonged period of scrutiny. The new executives will now steer the company through these regulatory and legal battles in the coming months.
