Pope Francis' Impact Felt Across the Globe: A Tribute to a Man of Humility and Peace
Pope Francis, the beloved leader of the Catholic Church, passed away on April 21, 2023. His passing has left a deep sense of sadness not only among Catholics but also among people of other faiths who were touched by his humility, kindness, and commitment to peace.
One such individual is Hadja Sarah Lukman Handang, a Muslim education program supervisor from Manila, Philippines. Handang had the honour of meeting Pope Francis in 2017 at St. Peter's Basilica. She brought 150 rosaries for him to bless for her Catholic friends, and he did so with a warm smile and kind words.
Handang was part of the Global Platform for Youth and Peace before meeting Pope Francis in Vatican City. Her encounter with the Pope left a lasting impression on her, and she describes him as radiating humility and simplicity. Her friends were moved to tears with joy when they received the blessed rosaries.
In Manila, Anton Mari Lim, a Filipino, also had the opportunity to see Pope Francis during his visit in 2015. Lim was present at the Malacanang event and managed to take a photo of the Pope. He expresses gratitude for the example set by Pope Francis, particularly his warm and accommodating demeanor.
Paul Madrigalejo, another Filipino, attended Pope Francis' mass in Luneta, Manila, on January 19, 2015. Madrigalejo was in the vicinity of the popemobile during the event and felt a significant shift in his emotions during the encounter with Pope Francis. He considers the Pope's passing as personal and deeply saddening.
Rolando Inclan and his family also met Pope Francis at St. Peter's Basilica. Despite the difficulty in getting a good shot of the Pope, Inclan managed to capture him on video. He describes Pope Francis as exuding a warm and welcoming aura.
Lim believes that Pope Francis brought peace to many, including the Filipino people. His humble and simple demeanor, coupled with his unwavering commitment to peace, made him a beacon of hope and inspiration for millions around the world.
Pope Francis will be laid to rest on April 26, 2023. His legacy will continue to live on, inspiring generations to come with his message of love, peace, and unity.
