Residential Building Affected by ABC Operation in Dresden: Evacuation of Residents, One Person Sustains Injury
In the heart of Dresden, on a chilly January day in 2025, the local fire station was called to a residential building due to a report of a gas smell. The initial inspection by the Ockerwitz local fire station team did not detect gas odour but a pungent smell that hinted at something more.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that a tenant on the first floor had been handling chemicals, including ammonia and hydrochloric acid. This startling discovery led to a series of precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all involved.
Michael Klahre, the contact person for the Dresden Fire Department Press Office, provided updates on the situation. He can be reached at [email protected] or by phone at 0351/8155-295 or 0160-96328780.
As a result of the potential chemical hazards, all seven residents were evacuated and temporarily accommodated in a bus provided by the Dresden Public Transportation. The tenant, who had been exposed to the unidentified substances, was decontaminated by emergency services using specialized equipment, treated by paramedics, and taken to the hospital.
The building, now sealed and guarded by the police, could not be re-entered due to the detected chemicals. Specialists from the State Criminal Office were called in due to potential explosive hazards from stored items in the apartment.
A total of 48 firefighters and rescue personnel from various stations were involved in the operation. After a thorough examination of the building, the all-clear was given, and the gas and electricity supplies were shut off. However, other unidentified substances were found in the apartment, causing chemical reactions on the tenant's skin.
As the investigation continues, the Dresden Fire Department Press Office remains the primary source for updates on this ongoing situation.
