Residential area in Lübbecke under gunfire: Collaborative statement from Bielefeld Prosecutor's Office and local police
In the peaceful residential area of Lübbecke, Germany, an unexpected incident unfolded on Sunday, September 7, 2025. Multiple gunshot noises were reported in the area of Lerchenweg, leading to a swift response from local authorities.
The police were alerted to the situation around 10:45 AM, and upon arrival, they found a bullet hole in a house wall and a broken window. The incident caused a stir in the community, with Lerchenweg and adjacent streets being cordoned off for the operation. A nearby football match had to be abandoned due to the cordoned-off area.
During the operation, a special task force, along with a police helicopter, was deployed to assist in the search. The suspect, a 48-year-old German-Russian man, was found in an adjacent cornfield. He was provisionally arrested at the scene, and cartridge casings were found on the terrace of the suspect. It was also discovered that the suspect is the holder of a weapon permit, and the locked weapon safe in his house was secured by the police.
