Residential and commercial buildings in Böblingen face a devastating basement fire, promptly addressed by two catenary rescue lines.
A fire broke out in the basement of a residential and commercial building in Böblingen's Lauchstraße on Tuesday morning. The incident was handled by the Fire Department Böblingen, with incident commander Daniel Rieß leading the operation.
An emergency call was received at the integrated control center in Röhrer Weg around 10:00 a.m. regarding smoke coming from the basement of a multi-story building. Upon arrival, the fire department confirmed a basement fire with a total of 50 personnel on site.
Several people made themselves known at windows, whom the fire department immediately brought to safety, thanks to the swift action of the deployed personnel. However, people from apartments had to be rescued due to a blocked escape route. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but two individuals were injured, and ten other affected persons were reported as a result of the fire.
Mayor Dr. Stefan Belz and Ordnungsamtsleiterin Gisa Gaietto made themselves on-site during the extinguishing measures to assess the situation and thanked all the deployed personnel for their swift action. The police, DRK local association Böblingen, and the municipal ordinance office provided care for the accommodation of the residents as the building was temporarily uninhabitable.
The smoke removal process in the building took longer, and around 3:00 p.m., the building was handed over to the police, who began investigating the cause of the fire. The cause of the fire in the basement has not been publicly stated or attributed to a specific person at this time.
