Reorganization initiative commences between Gütersloh and Rheda-Wiedenbrück on September 15th

The B61 between Gütersloher Straße and Hans-Böckler-Straße will undergo renovation starting on September 15, 2025. The construction company responsible for the project has not yet been announced, as the project is currently in the tendering phase.

To accommodate the renovation, detours will be set up for both cyclists and motorists. The first construction section, which begins at Gütersloher Straße and ends shortly before the intersection with the city ring Kattenstroth/Kiebitzstraße, will temporarily close and repair the pedestrian/bicycle path.

For traffic heading towards Gütersloh in the second section, the detour will be via the city ring Kattenstroth, the city ring Sundern, and the city ring Nordhorn to the intersection with the B61 (Berliner Straße). In the opposite direction, traffic heading towards Gütersloh will be detoured from the Gütersloher Straße (L568), Kornstraße (K5), L791 (Varenseller Straße), Brockstraße (K3), and the city ring Kattenstroth to the intersection of Bielefelder Straße / Stadtring Kattenstroth (detour end).

In the first section, traffic heading towards Rheda-Wiedenbrück will be detoured via Herzebrocker/Gütersloher Straße (L788), Tecklenburger Weg (L927), and the B64 to the B64/B61 interchange (Holunderstraße/Bielefelder Straße). In the second section, the detour for traffic heading towards Rheda-Wiedenbrück remains the same as the first section.

The signal programs of the existing traffic lights along the construction site will be adjusted accordingly, and a construction traffic light will be set up at the intersection of Varenseller Straße (L791)/Kornstraße (K5) for the detour.

The Regional Directorate Ostwestfalen-Lippe of Straßen.NRW is overseeing the construction work, which is expected to take four weeks. RNL OWL considered it important to inform about the measure early on due to the connection function, the traffic volume (around 18,000 cars and around 1,150 trucks per day), and the resulting impacts.

The press office of the regional branch of Ostwestfalen-Lippe (RNL OWL) initially informed the companies and residents along the route about the measure in early August. Residents and businesses can reach their properties via the signposted detours and were informed about the measure in advance.

The renovation will be a significant undertaking, with the project spanning a 3.2-kilometer stretch of the B61. The full closure of the federal road will take place on the early morning of September 15th. The detour will be set up a week in advance due to its scale.
