Movie Night Goes Green: Author Rents Projector Screen from Library of Things

In a bid to make movie night more eco-friendly, author decided to rent a projector screen instead of buying a new one for a one-time event. The screen, named 'Leicester the Projector Screen', was rented from the Library of Things, a London-based service that allows individuals to borrow objects for short periods.

The author's current setup did not accommodate multiple viewers, making a projector screen a necessity for the movie night with friends. After a quick search, the author found that the 60-inch 'Leicester the Projector Screen' could be rented for £6 a day from the Library of Things.

However, the search results did not provide information about the manufacturer of the rental vehicle. Nonetheless, the author was pleased to discover that renting the projector screen was a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option. Every time a new piece of kit is bought first-hand, it contributes to a system where fossil fuels and rare metals are extracted to make and ship the product. By renting, the author was able to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle.

The weight of 'Leicester the Projector Screen' is 8.1kg, making it easy to transport and set up. A sheet is not suitable for projecting due to lack of flatness, and using a plain wall for a projector is not ideal due to uneven light reflection. A proper projector screen, on the other hand, allows the projector to show its best detail, color, and contrast.

Renting the projector screen for one day cost the author under £10, which included an additional membership fee of £2.50. The same model of the projector screen is available for purchase for around £115, making renting a more affordable option for short-term usage.

The Library of Things has over 20 locations across London and similar initiatives exist in other parts of the country and around the world. This is a great alternative for those looking for a piece of tech kit as a one-off where it would otherwise sit unused for the rest of its life.

The author was looking for an eco-friendly solution and did not want to buy a full-blown projector screen for a one-time event. Renting the projector screen from the Library of Things was a successful and sustainable choice, providing a great movie night experience without the environmental impact of buying new.
