The Belgian Secretary of State for Building Control, Mathieu Michel, has expressed concern over the ongoing scaffolding work at the Palace of Justice in Brussels, describing it as "work in progress" on Twitter.

Michel's tweet highlighted the scaffolding on the Palace of Justice as a long-standing issue, implying a criticism of the current state of the renovation project. The Secretary of State has demonstrated a concern for the public perception of the project, showing a willingness to address the concerns surrounding it.

The Public Buildings Administration is the client for the renovation works, with the first step being the reinforcement of the scaffolds. Tests and test restorations can be carried out on the bricks once the scaffolds are reinforced. The anchors of the bricks will be mapped out, and immediate problems will be solved if necessary.

The scaffolds have been in place since 1984 and need reinforcement and adaptation before renovation works can begin. The Belgian government has allocated €1.5 million for the renovation of the scaffolds.

The current plan is to take down the scaffolding around the Palace of Justice in 2030. The facade on Place Poelaert, including the entrance, esplanade, and base of the palace's dome, will be restored first. After the facade on Place Poelaert is restored, the facades of Rue des Minimes, Rue aux Laines, and Rue de Wynants will also be restored.

Michel has expressed concern about the scaffolding being in place for 40 years without completion of the work, stating it as a poor example of coherent and efficient public management. He has also made it clear that he desires a justice system that is not under construction.

The person who described himself as Secretary of State for Building Control opposite the Brussels Palace of Justice and criticised the renovation delays is Bernard Clerfayt. Michel's tweet indicated a desire for a more efficient resolution to the Palace of Justice renovation project.

The Brussels' Palace of Justice requires renovation for its scaffolding before the building itself can be renovated. The renovation works do not currently provide any new information about the specifics of the renovation works or the budget allocated for the project. However, with the Secretary of State's intervention, there is hope for a more efficient and timely resolution to this long-standing issue.
