Renewable energy shifts to solar power at Kita Rödernstraße, aligning with Offenbach's climate strategy for sustainability.
Offenbach City Council Pushes Forward with Solar Energy Offensive
In a commendable move towards climate protection, the city council of Offenbach has proposed a resolution to equip as many municipal buildings as possible with photovoltaic systems. This offensive aims to create 45 such installations, generating over five million kilowatt hours of environmentally friendly electricity per year.
The Kindertagesstätte Röderstraße (Kita 3) in Offenbach is already part of this initiative, with its solar installation being the seventh in the series. Completed as part of a new build in 2021, this installation boasts a peak performance of 63 kilowatt-peak.
Initially, a green roof was planned for the Röderstraße kindergarten, but was postponed due to cost considerations. However, remaining funds from the project final settlement made the subsequent greening and the integration of the solar installation at the Röderstraße kindergarten possible.
Energieversorgung Offenbach AG (EVO) is supporting this move, viewing it as a valuable contribution to climate protection in the region. The Stadtwerke Offenbach and Stadtwerke Dreieich have also backed the project, with the Stadtwerke Offenbach covering the costs of the seventh solar installation, amounting to approximately 70,000 euros.
Excess electricity from the Röderstraße kindergarten solar installation flows into the public power grid and is available to the citizens of Offenbach.
The implementation of this resolution lies with Stadtwerke Offenbach Holding GmbH, which plans to invest 1.3 million euros annually in the offensive until 2027. More than ten further solar installations on municipal properties are already planned for 2025.
This solar offensive is a significant step in Offenbach's climate strategy, demonstrating the city's commitment to a greener and more sustainable future. The city council's resolution to equip as many municipal buildings as possible with photovoltaic systems is a testament to their dedication to environmental conservation and renewable energy.
