Renault Group names Jean-André Barbosa as the new head of Public Relations
Renault Group Appoints Jean-André Barbosa as Head of International Affairs and Competitiveness
Jean-André Barbosa, a seasoned executive with a rich background in international affairs and competitiveness, has expanded his role at Renault Group. According to François Provost, Director of Purchasing, Partnerships, and Public Affairs at Renault Group, this move is intended to strengthen the company's engagement with decision-makers worldwide, particularly government bodies.
Barbosa, a graduate of École des mines de Paris and a chief engineer in the Corps des mines, brings a wealth of experience to his new position. His career began at the European Commission, where he worked in the General Directorates for Trade and Energy. Between 2008 and 2020, he held executive positions in several multinational private groups, including Saint-Gobain and AREVA.
At Saint-Gobain, Barbosa was appointed General Director for the CEI pole packaging. At AREVA, he served as Director for Central and Eastern Europe, overseeing public affairs. In 2020, he returned to the European Commission to join the team of experts under the Chief Economist of the DG Energy.
Barbosa's work has been highly regarded within the industry. François Provost highlighted his contributions to Renault Group's proposals to revive the European automotive industry. He also commended Barbosa's efforts on major sector challenges, such as vehicle CO2 standards.
In addition to his role at Renault Group, Barbosa has been actively involved in global affairs. He participated in Doha Round negotiations at the WTO and various negotiations with third countries on energy. His expertise extends beyond the automotive industry, making him an ideal candidate for his new role.
The global automotive industry is undergoing profound transformation. The establishment of a global public affairs organization will allow Renault Group to better align objectives and interests, and to defend its interests among stakeholders across all markets where the Group operates. The organization's mission is to animate competitiveness issues in countries where Renault Group operates.
Barbosa's team will be tasked with maintaining continuous relations with stakeholders worldwide. They will work to ensure that Renault Group's voice is heard in global discussions on industry transformation, energy policy, and more.
In September 2022, Barbosa joined Renault Group as Head of European Public Affairs and French Regulation. Now, he takes on an even broader role, one that is crucial in navigating the complex and ever-changing global landscape.
Despite extensive search results, information about the person who served as Sherpa for Luca de Meo during his presidency of the ACEA in 2023 and 2024 could not be found. However, Barbosa's appointment is a significant step forward for Renault Group, as they continue to position themselves as a leader in the global automotive industry.
