Harald Juhnke Square Opens in Berlin, Honouring a German Entertainment Legend

Harald Juhnke, one of Germany's greatest entertainers, is being honoured posthumously with the naming of a square in his birthplace, Berlin. The Harald Juhnke Square, located at the intersection of Kurfürstendamm, Grolmanstraße, and Uhlandstraße in Berlin-Charlottenburg, was officially opened on September 29, 2025.

Born in Charlottenburg, Juhnke spent most of his life in the entertainment industry, both in theater and German television. For nearly five decades, he was a prominent figure, appearing in numerous series, films, and theater productions. His work spanned across various mediums, including voice acting, where he lent his voice to many Hollywood greats.

Juhnke was closely connected to the theater scene in western Berlin, and the square's location is significant. It is in close proximity to the Ku'damm stages, a place that held special significance for Juhnke's artistic work. Shows like "Ein verrücktes Paar" and "Musik ist Trumpf" were major hits, further cementing Juhnke's place in the hearts of Germans.

Berlin's governing mayor, Kai Wegner (CDU), stated that naming the square after Juhnke honours his life's work and symbolizes the city's close connection to him. District councilor Oliver Schruoffeneger (Greens) added that Juhnke represents the spirit and humor of Berlin like no other.

Peter Wolf, Juhnke's long-time manager and family representative, expressed happiness and gratitude for the Harald Juhnke Square. He stated that Juhnke would be delighted with the square during the official inauguration on September 29, 2025. Both politicians plan to officially open the square at the end of September.

Juhnke's life was not without controversy. He was known for making headlines due to his alcohol consumption. However, his contributions to the entertainment industry cannot be denied. Juhnke died in April 2005 from dementia.

Despite his passing, Juhnke's legacy lives on. The Harald Juhnke Square serves as a reminder of his significant impact on the entertainment industry and his close connection to Berlin.
