Regular flow of A544 traffic commencing from 8th September
The A544 Haarbach Valley Bridge, which had been under construction for 19 months, resumed traffic in both directions on an unspecified date, marking a significant milestone in the rebuilding project. The bridge, which was officially inaugurated on September 8, 2025, was completed by the Autobahn GmbH on September 1, 2025.
The Autobahn GmbH was particularly thanked for the close, good, and trusting cooperation with various parties, including administration, politics, relevant authorities, emergency services, police, fire department, ASEAG, StraΓen.NRW, and others. This collaborative effort was praised by the mayor, Sibylle Keupen, who also thanked Haar residents, businesses, and citizens for their patience and understanding during the construction period.
The existing bridge, built in 1956, had to be demolished on January 30, 2024, due to severe damage. Simultaneously, the smaller "Auf der Huls" bridge in the same stretch of the A544 was also rebuilt. The replacement bridge for the A544 Haarbach Valley Bridge, which was demolished in January 2024, has a new form of tendering applied by the Autobahn GmbH, which allowed for the fastest construction.
The total cost of the A544 Haarbach Valley Bridge project, including the "Auf der Huls" bridge, was not specified in the press release. The contractor who carried out the new construction is not explicitly named in the available sources. However, construction of the replacement bridge began immediately by the Autobahn GmbH and was completed on September 1, 2025.
The ceremony for the official inauguration was attended by numerous representatives from politics, business, and administration. The Autobahn GmbH's project page provides an RSS feed for press releases, available at https://www.ourwebsite.de/rss-feed-press-releases/rss.xml for those interested in following updates on the project.
Remaining landscape work, such as the renaturation of the Haarbach, will be completed in spring 2026. The reopening of the A544 Haarbach Valley Bridge is expected to significantly improve traffic flow in the region and contribute to the local economy.
