We can see a group of people standing on the ground, some of them holding baseball bats, while others are sitting in the stands. The stadium is surrounded by a fence, a pole with flags, sign boards with text, a display screen, and a roof with ceiling lights. The sky is cloudy, adding to the atmosphere of the game.

Red Sox vs. Yankees Wild Card series kicks off with strict ticket rules

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees will face off in the Wild Card playoff series starting on Tuesday night. Game 1 takes place at 6 p.m. in The Bronx, with Ticketmaster enforcing strict sales rules for fans.

Ticketmaster has limited ticket purchases for Game 1 to residents of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. Any orders placed from outside these states will be automatically cancelled and refunded. Despite the restrictions, tickets remain available at face value on the official site, though most are in the upper deck.

The best-of-three series will see all games played at Yankee Stadium. This approach mirrors similar measures taken by other teams during playoffs. Earlier this year, the Detroit Pistons used 'geo-fencing' to restrict ticket sales for their NBA playoff game against the New York Knicks. Red Sox supporters from New England may now have to turn to the secondary market if they wish to attend the Wild Card round in person.

The geographic restrictions aim to prioritise local fans for the high-demand matchup. With all games held at Yankee Stadium, out-of-state supporters will need alternative options to secure seats. The series kicks off on Tuesday evening, setting the stage for a tightly contested playoff battle.
