Red-hued Lunar Eclipses Occurring on September 7th Come With Captivating Allure

Get ready for a celestial spectacle! On Sunday, September 7, 2025, a total lunar eclipse will be visible across Germany. This astronomical event promises an unforgettable sight as the Moon passes through the Earth's shadow, turning a reddish-brown hue.

The eclipse will begin as the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun. Observers may need to wait until the Moon is above the atmospheric layers to witness this natural wonder fully.

Several observatories across Germany will open their doors to the public for this special occasion. The ASTRO-OS and Volkssternwarte Hannover will open their observatories from 20:00 to 22:00 and 19:30 to 21:00 respectively. The Stiftung Planetarium Berlin also notes the occurrence of the total lunar eclipse, although a specific opening time is not mentioned. Unfortunately, there is no indication that the Observatorium Hoher List or the Thüringer Landessternwarte will open specifically on that date for the eclipse.

However, observatories in Stuttgart and Kreuzlingen near Constance will open due to this natural spectacle. For those in Berlin, two observatories offer guided live observations through professional telescopes for interested individuals.

The Moon will already be completely eclipsed as it rises, making for a dramatic entrance. However, the Moon's darker, reddish hue might make it difficult to spot, especially near the horizon.

The good news is that this event can be easily watched by children without any special equipment, especially in the south. So, mark your calendars and prepare for a night under the stars to witness this stunning display of nature. The total lunar eclipse will end by 20:53, leaving us all in awe of the cosmos.
