Recognition with the Federal Cross of Merit for Dr. Ulrike Bertlich
In the heart of Marl, Germany, Dr. Ulrike Bertlich has been a beacon of dedication and service for over two decades. Her contributions to the community, particularly in the fields of health and social initiatives, have left an indelible mark.
Dr. Bertlich's commitment to public health was evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a vaccinating doctor, she played a crucial role in administering vaccines at local vaccination centres and schools, helping to protect the community from the virus.
But her involvement in Marl's health sector extends far beyond the pandemic. In 1998, she initiated the construction of Kindergarten Sausewind, providing a nurturing environment for young minds. She also co-founded and served as the first chairperson of Förderverein Klara Hospiz e. V., an organisation dedicated to the construction of a hospice. Under her leadership, the Förderverein grew to over a thousand members, and they successfully raised nearly 2.5 million euros for the hospice's construction.
Dr. Bertlich's efforts for the hospice didn't stop at fundraising. She organised numerous charity events, fundraising campaigns, choir concerts, and White Night events, all aimed at raising awareness and funds for the project. Her tireless dedication paid off, as the hospice is now a reality, largely financed by the Förderverein.
In recognition of her outstanding service, Dr. Bertlich was presented with the Federal Cross of Merit by District Administrator Bodo Klimpel on August 25.
Beyond health and social initiatives, Dr. Bertlich has also been instrumental in educational projects. She played a significant role in founding the Förderverein of the Grundschule Sickingmühle, contributing to the school's growth and development.
Perhaps one of her most notable achievements is the establishment of Ärztenetzwerk Marl, a network of practicing doctors working to intensify cooperation in the healthcare sector. This network, which she initiated over 20 years ago, continues to strengthen medical collaboration in the region.
In the face of adversity, Dr. Ulrike Bertlich has consistently shown resilience and dedication, making her a true asset to the community of Marl. Her contributions will continue to shape the city for years to come.
