"Recently unveiled pop-up display at the Japanese Palace"
In the heart of Dresden, the Japanese Palace plays host to an intriguing exhibition titled "Please do not sit!". This unique event, which runs from August 13 to September 6, showcases objects gathered from Germany and Austria.
Behind this innovative exhibition is the young company "neuerdings", founded by Luise Thiem, Anna Weiß, and Lorenz Köhler just a few months ago. The company focuses on the unconventional design of previously unused spaces in Dresden.
The trio met during the "Future-proof inner cities and centers" (ZIZ) project in the Neustadt, where their shared interest in creative urban development was ignited. Their first project at the market hall saw them taking a different approach compared to the Japanese Palace, opting for short-term interventions.
The design studio herbst.freitag provided support for the conception of the exhibition, which is part of the SKD exhibition "Mythos Handwerk". Some of the objects on display were previously exhibited at the Milan Design Week 2025.
Two product designers, Kolja Kirsch and Ole Müller, were not difficult to persuade to create an exhibition on the topic of "sitting". Their design studio, Yard Shed Office, is exhibiting three seating arrangements at the Japanese Palace.
The field of product design is currently underrepresented in Dresden, but there is great potential. Kirsch and Müller believe there is a lack of visibility for young culture and design scenes in the city. They see themselves as "activists in suits", working to change this.
The creation of the exhibition "Please do not sit!" is remarkable due to the involvement of the young company "neuerdings". The three members who realized the project are Franziska Nieschalk, Sophie Höhl, and Till Köhn, all of whom previously worked as project managers.
You can follow "neuerdings" on Instagram under @_neuerdings_. The exhibition at the Japanese Palace is free of charge, but the admission is valid only for the pop-up exhibition, not for "Mythos Handwerk". The exhibition is open Wednesdays to Sundays, from 10 to 17 o'clock. Don't miss this opportunity to experience the innovative designs of Dresden's rising design stars!
