Rastatt unites against racism with art, food, and powerful stories this March

Rastatt is hosting a series of events as part of the International Weeks Against Racism. The programme includes exhibitions, film screenings, and community gatherings throughout March. Organisers aim to highlight diversity, integration, and shared experiences in the region.

From March 16 to the end of the month, Bildungshaus St. Bernhard will display the exhibition We Can Do It – An Update on Success Stories. The show, organised by the Association for International Diversity in Rastatt (VIVE), features personal stories from refugees about integration and coexistence. Visitors can explore accounts of tolerance and new beginnings in the local area.

A second exhibition, Black Heroes, will run at the City Library from March 24 to April 24. Based on the book Black. German. Successful by Kerstin Finkelstein-Kabengele and Guy Kabengele, it celebrates achievements and contributions of Black individuals in Germany.

On March 17, a communal Iftar meal will take place at Rossi-Haus to mark Ramadan. Those wishing to attend must register by March 6. Later in the month, on March 25, Dörfel's Community Work Office will host a culinary event where guests can sample international dishes and add to a shared buffet.

Interactive activities include Belonging – Your Voice Matters! on March 21 at Rastatt Market Square. Participants will contribute to a collaborative mural by sharing their thoughts and experiences. The Rastatt Youth Center will also hold creative workshops, offering crafting, intercultural cooking, and a themed film night.

The campaign concludes with a screening of The Mölln Letters at Forum Cinema Rastatt on March 26 at 7:00 PM. The documentary follows Ibrahim Arslan's journey of remembrance after the 1992 racist arson attack in Mölln.

The events form part of a wider initiative across German cities, with major participants like Berlin, Munich, and Cologne. While no central registry tracks all activities, the International League Against Racism (ILAR) and local groups coordinate the campaign. Rastatt's programme reflects ongoing efforts to promote dialogue and combat discrimination.
