Rapid rise in coronavirus cases reported by the head of Rospotrebnadzor
In a recent development, Russia has reported an increase in cases of the 'Stratus' variant of the coronavirus. This more contagious strain was first detected in the country in April.
According to Anna Popova, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, the number of 'Stratus' infection cases is on the rise daily. The current number of cases stands at 384.
Anna Popova explained that each new genetic variant of the coronavirus changes to survive, and the property 'Stratus' has acquired is increased contagiousness. However, she emphasized that 'Stratus' does not bring any extraordinary clinical symptoms.
Despite the low risk to public health assessed by Rospotrebnadzor at the end of July, Popova warned that the consequences of COVID-19 can vary and recommended taking care of one's health. She also cautioned that a surge in cases could occur when people return from their vacations.
The first 'Stratus' infection case in Russia was diagnosed at the end of July in a 34-year-old man from Moscow. Russia is currently experiencing a rise in COVID-19 cases that began at the end of July.
Popova further explained that the emergence of new variants is not unexpected and is a natural part of the virus's evolution. She urged the public to continue following safety measures, such as wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and getting vaccinated, to help curb the spread of the virus.
As the situation continues to evolve, it is important for individuals to stay informed and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and others from the virus.
