Tram Derails in City Centre: Extensive Recovery Operations
A collision between a tram and a bus caused major disruptions in the city centre yesterday. According to initial police investigations, the tram had the right of way at the time of the accident, which occurred at the intersection of tracks and road.
The incident took place when the bus driver, aged 42, was attempting to turn left in front of the tram at the cathedral. The bus, which was coming from Rath and intended to turn around at its own bus lane, collided with the tram, causing it to derail.
Fortunately, the parallel traffic for the tram had a green light, and major traffic disruptions were avoided. However, the collision resulted in significant damage to both the tram and the bus, and extensive recovery operations were required.
Rheinbahn, the local transport authority, used its own heavy equipment to clear the tram and bus, and the recovery operations lasted until the morning. Four people in the tram were slightly injured, and both the tram and bus drivers were taken to hospitals for treatment.
It was previously misreported that the 31-year-old tram driver was the cause of the accident. However, the name of the 42-year-old bus driver, who is believed to be responsible for the collision, is not found in the available search results. The bus had no passengers on board at the time of the accident.
Despite the extensive recovery operations, the city's transport system managed to avoid major disruptions, and services were resumed by noon. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
