Germany Secures Round of 16 Spot Amid Racist Incident at EM

In a mixed bag of sports success and unfortunate incidents, Germany's basketball team secured a spot in the Round of 16 at the European Championship (EM) in Tampere, Finland. However, the game against Lithuania was marred by racist taunts directed at Dennis Schröder, the team's captain.

During the game, Schröder led the team with an impressive 26 points, while Daniel Theis added 23 points and played strong defense. Andreas Obst and Franz Wagner also contributed with several three-pointers, making the game an open duel at a high offensive level. The team's dominant performance resulted in a 107:88 win over Lithuania.

However, the victory was overshadowed by a series of racist incidents. Federation President Ingo Weiss expressed his shock over the taunts, which included monkey noises and racist accusations. Two Finnish spectators were expelled from the Nokia Arena in Tampere for their role in the incident. Weiss described the racist insults as "insulted in the worst possible racist way."

Despite the disturbing incident, Germany's coach, Alan Ibrahimagic, successfully managed the team, substituting for the ill Alex Mumbru for the third EM game in a row. Ibrahimagic urged his team to stay focused and look ahead for their upcoming games. If Germany wins against Britain on Monday and Finland on Wednesday, they could secure the top spot in their group.

Meanwhile, Schröder will appear in Ludwigsburg on Thursday to present his book and sign autographs, away from the racist incidents that marred the game against Lithuania. Lithuania's team, which included NBA giant Jonas Valanciunas, will look to regroup and prepare for their next game.

Ibrahimagic praised Schröder's performance in the game against Lithuania, calling it outstanding. Winning the group is important to avoid facing top favorite Serbia for as long as possible. Germany's next game against Britain will be a significant test for the team, as they continue their journey in the EM.
