Quiet Drama Hailing from Brazil: Bambu Bambá
In October, the Heinz Hilpert Theater in Lünen will play host to a unique and thought-provoking children's musical theatre piece. Entitled BAMBU BAMBÁ, this production is the brainchild of the Brazilian artist collective Bando de Brincantes.
BAMBU BAMBÁ tells the story of Bambá, a black boy who is forced to leave his home due to war and environmental disasters. As he journeys through new lands, Bambá encounters various cultures, learns their rituals, and finds strength in his own traditions. The story is conveyed without words, using music and rich imagination, making it accessible to children of all backgrounds.
This performance resonates particularly with children who have a migration background, offering a story that mirrors their own experiences. BAMBU BAMBÁ's message is one of hope, courage, and unity, making it a powerful and uplifting experience for all who attend.
The performance is scheduled for October 1st at 5 PM and October 2nd at 11 AM. Admission to the performances is free, and registration is required via kltrbrlnnd. For more information, please contact the Cultural Office Lünen at Kurt-Schumacher-Str. 41, 44532 Lünen or call 02306 104-2299.
On August 26, 2025, the Heinz Hilpert Theater in Lünen, in collaboration with the Theater Lünen Support Association, will present the Brazilian guest performance. The performance on October 2nd at 5 PM is accompanied by an artist talk on "Theatre, Migration, Diaspora, and Childhood" (English-Portuguese with German translation).
BAMBU BAMBÁ was funded by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture within the framework of the PNAB (National Aldir Blanc Policy). The Cultural Secretariat of the state of Rio Grande do Sul also supported this production.
