Queen Camilla Honours Inspiring Women - Queen Camilla Honors Eight Trailblazing Women for International Women's Day

The British royal family’s Instagram account marked International Women’s Day by celebrating eight women who have inspired Queen Camilla. Their achievements range from activism and charity work to groundbreaking firsts in sport and justice. The queen herself shared a message urging women to break barriers and lead by example. Among those recognised was Gisèle Pelicot, a survivor of a high-profile rape trial in France. Her courage earned her the Legion of Honor, one of the country’s highest awards. Another honouree, Aamilah Aswat, made history as the first Black female jockey to win a race in Britain.

Sharon Baker, a police officer and domestic abuse survivor, was also highlighted for founding a support network for colleagues facing similar struggles. Meanwhile, Dame Laura Lee, CEO of Maggie’s cancer support charity—where Queen Camilla serves as president—was acknowledged for her leadership in healthcare. The list included the UISG sisters, a global network of nuns working on education for girls and climate action. Chef Asma Khan, who donates all profits from her restaurant, Darjeeling Express, to charity during Ramadan, was celebrated for her generosity. John and Amy Hunt, advocates for families affected by gender-based violence, were recognised for their campaigning efforts. Queen Camilla also hosted a private screening of *Hamnet*, the award-winning film adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel. The event underscored her support for the arts and storytelling as tools for inspiration.

The eight women represent diverse fields, from sport and law enforcement to charity and activism. Their contributions align with Queen Camilla’s call for women to challenge limits and pave the way for others. The royal family’s tribute highlighted both individual achievements and collective efforts to drive change.
