Quarry Disappearance: Individual suspected to have vanished in the depths of a quarry, identified as FW Mettmann
In the small town of Mettmann, Germany, a search operation for a missing person in the disused Laubacher quarry came to an end on April 30, 2025. The incident was first reported at 16:35.
The Fire Department Mettmann initiated the operation after a suspicion of a missing person in the water was reported. The Incident Commander, Christoph Siegert, was the contact for inquiries.
Upon arrival, firefighters and emergency services personnel from Mettmann, Erkrath, Velbert, Hilden, Erkrath, Mettmann, and Monheim am Rhein fire departments, as well as the DLRG from Erkrath, Mettmann, and Monheim am Rhein, began the search.
The search party used a rescue boat and two drones to scour the water surface and shores. They also requested the assistance of a diving group and additional rescue boats from the DLRG.
Despite an extensive search, no person was found in or near the water. The rough and steep terrain around the quarry required the responders to proceed on foot, ensuring their own safety.
Several pieces of clothing and shoes were found on the shore, indicating that people had been present. An inflated air mattress was also discovered on the opposite side of the water during the search.
The Mettmann police also supported the measures taken. The operation was concluded after approximately 3 hours.
