Pursued Motorist Apprehended (Age 44) Following Brief Pursuit
Early Sunday morning, a dramatic incident unfolded in the Cologne neighborhood of Niehl. A VW Touareg, driven by a 44-year-old man from Leverkusen, was spotted by police at the intersection of Niehler Straße / Friedrich-Karl-Straße.
The police attempted to stop the VW Touareg, but it sped off, disregarding multiple red lights. The pursuit ended in Niehl, where the impounded VW Touareg was found parked later in the street "Im Stapelkai".
Upon investigation, the police found fresh accident damage on the impounded VW Touareg. A 44-year-old man was removed from the vehicle, and he was suspected of being drunk while driving. The driver was found hiding behind a building in the location where the VW Touareg was found.
The police took two blood samples from the 44-year-old man and seized his mobile phone and driver's license. Inside the impounded VW Touareg, the driver's license and ID of the driver from Leverkusen were found.
The 44-year-old man is now facing charges including suspected hit-and-run and endangerment in traffic.
