Punk Rock Meets Art: 'Punk Rock and Paintbrushes' Showcases Seven Talented Artists
An art exhibition with a punk twist, 'Punk Rock and Paintbrushes,' recently showcased works by seven talented artists. The event, organized by Emily Neilsen, brought together art lovers and punk rock enthusiasts in an unexpected blend of creativity and rebellion.
The exhibition featured artworks by Mike Gallo, Lisa Brownlee, Jay Weinberg, Stacie Stevenson, Jesse Michaels, Kristin Koefoed, and Warren Fitzgerald. Each artist brought their unique perspective, inspired by their love for punk rock. Kristin Koefoed's vibrant, humorous pieces stood out, reflecting her deep appreciation for punk album art.
Jesse Michaels of Operation Ivy, known for his high-energy music, found painting to be a meditative contrast. Lisa Brownlee, a tour manager and collage artist, enjoyed exhibiting in a SoHo gallery alongside fellow punk scene artists. Emily Neilsen, the founder, has fostered a creative environment since starting the collective in 2014. She has collaborated with Jim McIlrath of Rise Against, with proceeds benefiting 'Rock Against Cancer.'
The collective, now with around 30 artists including Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio and Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction, has seen its art exhibited at various concert tours and festivals, such as one in Pennsylvania. Signed and painted guitars from bands like Green Day, Gwar, and Dropkick Murphys have been donated to support charities.
Emily Neilsen's 'Punk Rock and Paintbrushes' continues to bridge the gap between punk rock and visual art. With its diverse roster of artists and unique exhibitions, the collective promises to keep the spirit of punk alive, both on stage and on canvas.
